Six Joyous Holiday Traditions

As we tiptoe around the mistletoe and deck our halls with boughs of holly (and other decorations that aren’t holly), we wanted to pay tribute to some of the most joyous holiday traditions we look forward to every year. From baking cookies while sipping on eggnog to the all-or-nothing white elephant party, check out our picks for six fun holiday traditions.

Six Joyous Holiday Traditions

1. Making Holiday Cookies (Where You Probably Eat More than You Give)

No holiday season is complete without the delicious smell of fresh baked cookies wafting through the house! Making cookies (or any sweet treat) definitely tops our list because they are not just fun to make, but even more delicious to eat (and share with friends and family, of course).

2. Cozying Up for Classic Holiday Movies and Books

There’s nothing like a cold night in with a glass of wine, a pile of blankets, fuzzy socks, and your favorite holiday book or movie. What’s wonderful about this holiday tradition is that you can do it alone, snuggled with your furbaby or significant other, or piled onto the sofa with your friends and family.

3. Shopping for the Perfect Christmas Tree…And Then Figuring Out How to Get it Home

Bundling up and fighting the cold is so worth it in the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree. Perusing the rows of trees, being as picky as possible, and debating the “Christmas quality” of a tree is part of the fun of the holidays. Once you are certain you are walking away with the best tree on the lot, now comes the hard part…how will you fit it on your car? Several rolls of twine later, you are ready to go home and begin decorating! These moments at the Christmas tree farm are the ones that bring smiles to our faces and joy to our hearts.

4. Learning How to Wrap Gifts…Again

Whether you’re a get-it-done type or person or the human definition of procrastination, you will find yourself up late at night trying to figure out how to wrap different gifts…again. For those of us who fully embrace the tradition of late night holiday gift-wrapping, make a night out of it by throwing on some music or a festive movie and grabbing some cookies from the kitchen to keep you company! Don’t forget, tutorial videos are lifesavers when it comes to gift wrapping.

5. Classic Holiday Drinks

Mulled wine, peppermint mochas, hot cocoa, and eggnog — the list just keeps going! Classic holiday drinks are as much a holiday tradition as making holiday cookies. If you’re looking for a mulled wine recipe, you can find our favorite here. We’ve also got a wine-based hot cocoa recipe using our Black Forest Dark Red Blend that you’re sure to love.

6. White Elephant Parties/Gift Exchanges

Gift exchanges with your friend group, your colleagues, or even your extended family are a fun (and affordable) way to celebrate the holidays! Whether you decide to gift something nice like a coveted bottle of wine or prefer to give something silly with such as a singing toothbrush, the joy that comes from a white elephant party is simply contagious. Play it safe or be a little risqué with your gift (since it is generally anonymous) – either way you’re bound to have a blast.
